The Road to Memphis happening in Decatur in October


It will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 at Pop's Place in Decatur IL. Info and entry form are available at www.decaturblues.org.  

Most of the more than 190 Blues Societies will hold their own Blues Challenge. The winners of these events will go to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge Jan 16 through January 20, 2018. In Memphis, bands and solo/duo acts will compete for over $20,000 in cash and prizes. 

This 5 day event consists of 2 days of quarter final competition, 1 day of semi finals and culminates on Saturday with the winning acts competing in the finals at the Orpheum Theatre. The event also includes a meet & greet on the first night, several workshops throughout the event along with a luncheon for the “Keeping the Blues Alive” presentations. Beale Street will be alive with more Blues than you can possibly listen to.The Decatur Blues Society is looking for a band to represent us in Memphis. The winner of the band competition will receive $1000 to help offset their expenses in competing.

The deadline for entry is September 2, 2017. See entry forms for more information and entry requirements. We will follow the International Blues Foundation rules http://www.blues.org/#ref=ibc_rules including the No Mustang Sally Rule"and scoring criteria http://www.blues.org/#ref=ibc_scoring.

There are some rule changes at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this year. We will use their rules in the Challenge. Bands must now announce a cover song and credit original artist. Bands must live within 250 miles of Decatur and have okay from their local Blues Society to enter our Blues Challenge if they have a closer Blues Society. Bands now get penalized for stopping more than 3 minutes before the allotted 25 minute set time. We urge everyone to check the rules with the International Blues Foundation.

Entries must be postmarked no later than September 2, 2017.

There is no entry fee but one member of the band must be a member of Decatur Blues Society.

Drum kit will be provided but drummers must furnish their own cymbals and pedal. If they wish, they may use their own snare. 

Sound System for the venue will be provided. 

Bands must furnish their own amps.

ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES ARE FINAL.
