The Road to Memphis  
On Oct 16th "The Decatur Blues Society" will hold it’s first annual "Blues 
Challenge". Most of the 180 some Blues Societies across the US will hold there
own Blues Challenges. The winners of these events will go to Memphis in Feb 
of 2011 for the 27th annual International Blues Challenge. In Memphis bands 
and Solo/Duo competitors will compete for over $20,000 in cash & prizes. 
This 5 day event consists of 2 days of quarter final competition, 1 day of 
semi-finals and culminates on Saturday with the winning acts competing in the 
finals at the magnificent Orpheum Theatre.  
The event also includes a meet & greet on the first night, several workshops 
throughout the event along with a luncheon for the “Keeping the Blues Alive” 
awards presentations. Beale Street will be alive with more Blues than you can get 
around to listen to. Last January there were over 227 Blues acts in over 17 
different venues up and down Beale St. from all over the world.  
The Decatur Blues Society is looking for a band and a solo/duo act to go to 
Memphis and represent Decatur.  The winner of the band competition 
will receive $1000 and the solo/duo act will receive $500 to help with travel 
costs, and the opportunity to be the first acts the Decatur Blues Society sends 
to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge.
